Department of Criminology

The Department of Criminology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, non-tenure-track Lecturer/Clinical Specialist, to join our community starting in August 2023. The position is offered for an initial two-year appointment, with potential for renewal for a second two-year appointment and subsequent three-year appointments based on performance and the needs of the department.

In collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, the successful candidate will teach white-collar crime and cybersecurity; both courses fulfill requirements in the criminology major and in the computer science cybersecurity specialization. In addition, the successful candidate will teach existing courses in the criminology curriculum, and depending on the needs of the department, teach new courses in their area(s) of expertise. The standard teaching load for the position is four courses per semester. We anticipate no more than four different course preparations in any single academic year.

We are interested in candidates whose teaching and practice will connect and integrate with other disciplines and who have the potential to collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary efforts. We are especially interested in candidates who could contribute to either or both of the TCNJ’s two thematic clusters (broadly defined): Data-/Cyber-connected disciplines and Social/Racial Justice. The hires will build-on and expand existing faculty strengths in these areas – with an array of institutional supports for them – bringing a cluster of 10 new teacher-scholars and practitioners across a range of academic fields/departments to TCNJ (Accounting; Computer Science; Counselor Education; Criminology; Management; Music; Political Science; Statistics; and Special Education, Language, and Literacy).

Candidates should be committed to inclusive excellence in higher education, demonstrated through, for example, culturally responsive course design and pedagogy, equity-minded student engagement and mentorship, and cultivating intercultural competencies needed for meaningful citizenship.

Qualifications:

At the time of appointment, the successful candidate must have:

  • Have a Masters-level degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field.
  • Teach courses in white-collar crime and cybersecurity.

Faculty Cluster Initiative – Cybersecurity and Privacy Cluster

The University of Central Florida (UCF) has established nine interdisciplinary clusters to strengthen its academic offerings and research mission. In support of this effort, we are recruiting faculty in the broad area of cyber security and privacy, from a policy or social science perspective, and plan to hire one tenure-earning assistant professor for this cluster. This position has an anticipated start date of August 8, 2022.

The Cybersecurity and Privacy Cluster is an interdisciplinary initiative, bringing together researchers from across the campus and working on addressing the pressing questions of our national security from engineering, science, and social perspectives. The cluster currently has eight members, collectively advising more than 35 doctoral students, and embracing a strong culture of collaboration and teamwork. The cluster runs various well-funded programs, has developed and implemented a new interdisciplinary M.S. in Cybersecurity and Privacy, and was recently selected by the National Science Foundation to be a host institution for the prestigious Scholarship for Service Program.

This is an interdisciplinary position that will be expected to strengthen both the cluster and a chosen tenure home department and may include a combination of joint appointments. A strong advantage of this position is the ability of the candidate to choose a combination of units from the cluster for their appointment. Within this setting, the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology provides a comprehensive examination of justice, crime, victimization, and the law. The program offers both an in-person and fully online Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology that enrolls approximately 800 students across all campuses and a minor with 175 students. The department also houses an in-person and online Master of Science (MS) program in Criminal Justice and Criminology with concentrations in criminal justice/criminology and cybercrime. In addition, the Department offers an online Graduate Certificate in Cybercrime.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned master’s in criminal justice or criminology, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2021.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College or university teaching experience in criminal justice and criminology courses
  • Ability to teach CRJU 2010 Universal Justice
